Frequently Asked Questions

2024 Camp Registration will open on Wednesday, January 24th! You will see a "2024 Camp Registration" page on our website. Just follow the instructions and fill out the registration forms. 

• Hopkins/Golden Valley Camp:  1.5 week program, Monday, 06/24/2024 to Wednesday, 07/03/2024 (with an option to only sign up for a 1 week camp).  Location: The Blake School  (110 Blake Rd S, Hopkins, MN 55343)
• Mendota Heights/St. Paul Camp: 1 week program, Monday, 08/05/2024 to Friday, 08/09/2024.  Location: Visitation School (2455 Visitation Dr, Mendota Heights, MN 55120)

• There will be different classroom teachers, classmates from different schools, and guest speakers to interact with in Chinese language at the two camps,  all of which will help your child continue to build and grow their language proficiency and intercultural skills. 
• We will read some different books in the Chinese language arts block in the morning.  If there is a repeating book in the 2nd camp, we will make sure the teacher knows your child has read it in the 1st camp and challenges them with higher-level questions; 
• Cultural activities will be slightly different. For example, for cooking class, we might cook a different dish, or, cook the same dish but go into the professional kitchen that is available at Visitation School (2nd camp);

The hours for our camp is 9:30a.m. to 3:30p.m., Monday to Friday,  with Extended Day options (8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m.).  The fee for Extended Day is an extra $60/child (1-week camp) or $96/child (1.5-week camp). 

The fee is $280 per child for our 1-week program (5 days) and $448 per child for the 1.5- week (8 days) program.  The 1.5-week program is only offered at our Hopkins/Golden Valley site this year.  There is a $30 early bird discount if you sign up by March 1st, plus a $20 sibling discount.  If your child is currently in the free/reduced lunch program, they can apply for scholarships to join our camp for free (extended day fee NOT included).  

Yes! Eligible students must be:

• A Minnesota resident eligible for free or reduced priced lunches (documents from school/district is required)
• Student whose incoming grades are Kindergarten through 8th in fall 2024
• Eligibility also depends on remaining funds available

Yes! 2024 will be our first program that allows new kindergarteners to attend.  

New 6th graders will attend our Middle School program (6-8th).

New high schoolers are more than welcomed to join our Camp Counselor program.  It's a great volunteer opportunities to speak Chinese while earning 40-hr service hours and tons of leadership skills!  Meet some our last year's Camp Counselors here, If interested, please fill out the Camp Counselor Application Form.

We usually group students crossing two grades in elementary level.  For example, if your child's in Grade 2,  they will be either in a G1/G2 mixed age group, or in a G2/G3 mixed age group.  Middle schoolers (6-8th) will be in one group. 

For each group, we have one or two teachers, two or three counselors and sometimes adult volunteers.  Our average student-to-adult ratio is around 8:1.

No.  Every camper needs to bring a lunch, a snack and a water bottle on a daily basis.  Some times we will have cooking lessons, in that case all ingredients will be provided and we will share the food (we will contact families for food restrictions beforehand).  If your child(ren)  qualifies for scholarship and you need us to cover lunch/snack, we will communicate with you in person on this matter. 

Yes, you need to arrange your own transport for your child(ren).  One exception is that your child(ren) qualifies for scholarship and your home address is on our bus route.  In that case, we will communicate with you and see if we can help arrange transportation for your child(ren).

Summer Camp Refund Policy:
1) Cancel more than 3 weeks before 1st day of camp: 90% refund; 2) Cancel less than 3 weeks before 1st day of camp: 50% refund; 3) No refund once camp starts. Please be aware that, if you paid your fee via Venmo or PayPal, the transaction fee will be deducted from your refund.
